新中國成立以來，我國的科技發展突飛猛進，人工合成胰島素、斷手再植、雜交水稻、爆炸原子彈和氫彈、發射人造衛星和飛船等等，這些令世人矚目的科技成就，大大縮短了我國和先進國家的科學技術的差距，為我國的現代化建設注入了活力。鄧小平爺爺說「科學技術是第一生產力」，的確如此，科學為我們祖國的騰飛插上了翅膀。毛澤東主席曾對青年說，世界是你們的，也是我們的，但歸根結底是你們的。這句話，飽含了長輩們對我們的殷切期望。如果說長輩們用辛勤的勞動建設了20世紀的祖國，那麼，我們就應該以知識、以科學擔起新世紀的重擔。

There』s no perfect age to start living your dreams. Being too young or too old is no excuse. The perfect time to start is right now.

These people did.

Nola Ochs – The Energizer Student

1972. Nola Ochs is widowed on her wheat farm in the town of Jetmore, Kansas (population 1000). She tends to her farm with the help of her children. In 1978, she realises she wants more from life. Age 68, she signs up for a tennis class at the nearest community college.

Years pass. Nola works full-time on her farm and occasionally drives into town to attend a class. After ten years studying everything from agribusiness to the Bible, she』s told that she is one class away from an associates degree. All she must do is complete college algebra.

With an associates degree she is pleased but not fulfilled. College algebra will not be the end of her scholarly career. Several years later she decides to make the two hour trek to Fort Hays State University. Enrolling at age 94, she lacks only 30 class hours to earn a bachelor』s degree. In May 2007, at 95, she becomes the world』s oldest college graate.

Is it time to sit back and enjoy the framed diploma on the farmhouse wall? Not yet. She』s started a Masters Degree.

Cliff Burgess – The Marathon Man
1993. Cliff Burgess is 55. He』s tired of his potbelly and vows to start walking.

Cliff hits the pavement in his suburban Texas town. A walk around the block turns into twice around the block. Walking feels good, but he knows he can pick up some speed. The weight starts to come off as he signs up for 5km and 10km races. In less than a year, he enters in the San Antonio marathon thinking of it as a training run in preparation for his first marathon – 42km (26.2 miles). He feels good ring the race, and he crosses the finish line faster than expected.

Averaging 15 marathons per year, he completes his 100th marathon six years later at the age of 62.

Reaching 100 marathons isn』t the final goal. His running gives him an excuse to travel the world to add to his marathon list. He finds himself in Finland, France, Romania, China, Argentina, Brazil, 25 other countries, and nearly all of the 50 states of the USA in a record 15 years.

At age 70, he』s at Marathon #226 and counting. One of his finest highlights is qualifying multiple times for the runner』s dream: a bib number in the Boston Marathon. In April 2009, he will travel to Boston, Massachusetts for the fourth time to take part yet again in all the running glory.

Once man did not have to think about the protection of his environment. There were few people on the earth, and natural resources seemed to be unlimited.
Today things are different. The world has become too crowded. We are using up our natural resources,and polluting our environment with dangerous chemicals. If we continue to do this, human life on earth will not survive.
We realize that if too many fish are taken from the sea, there will soon be none left. Yet,with modern fishing methods, more and more fish are caught.We know that if too many trees are cut down, forests will disappear. Yet, we continue to use powerful machines to cut down more and more trees. We see that if rivers are polluted with waste procts, we will die. Yet, waste procts are more and more
i think avoiding to do many things is not the way to protect the envirnment,the point is not the thing we can't do,but is the thing we shuld do,we are human beings, and we are different form the other animals,we should relay on our telegent and brave.
here i think there are two effecient ways to protect the enviroment, and first one if the development of the technology, the knowlodge is power, it always makes us to get twice acheivement with half effort,for example, an typical pollution plastic package, many places forbid to use the plastic pakage,in fact the plastic package is very good,it has many advantage, low cost ,rable,convenient. the issue is we can't break down it, with the development of technology, one day it will be wildly used, but now what we can do is to use other things to instead it. we usually call for to save the resorces, but in my opinion the resorce is just like the money, if you want more money, you have to earn, but not to save. so the best way is to use the present resorce to discover the new and powrful resorce,we call it sustanibol development.
the other aspect of the protection is advocating everyone to join the group, to make every one realize the importance of protecting the enviroment, the more people ,the more power,thus, you can image if everyone has the habit to improve our enviroment,who make the pollution, if you want the enviroment better,now make you contribution and make your choice!

I'm worried about my country.

What is friendship? It is to relate with somebody without need for money
or objective. It is to need emotion and over wealth is friendship , no matter

Every one of us, rich or poor, should at least have one or two good
friends. My friends will listen to me when I want to speak, will wipe my eyes
when I cry, will take care of me when I am sick, and my friends will go together
with me side by side through this journey of life.

It is a wonderful feeling, as the proverb says" to love each other is easy
but to make frieds is hard", So, it is crutial that we should get along with our

Change The Ingredients Of Your Life
This is a glass of water, tasteless, right? However if you add sugar, it will taste sweet, but if you add vinegar, it will become bitter. The same is true with our life____ the flavor is created by our choices.
If kindness is added to a strange you will have a friend; but if hostility is added, you will have an enemy. If love is added to a pile of red bricks you will have a home, but if hatred is add to those bricks , you will have an concentration camp.
So my dear friends, never complain that life is boring and the world is disappointing. If don』t like the taste of your life, change the ingredients.
Three year ago, I weighed more than 100 hundred kilograms which caused significant embarrassment and frustration in my life. Like always failing my P.E examinations, like always being laughed at by girls, like being terrified to speak in public. It was my grandmother』s encouragement that revived from my passive attitude to become confident in myself. She said 「 My dear, if you can』t change you figure, why not treat it as your own style. I Am Tripping My Elephant Here
Once upon a time, a weenie ant was walking on his way. As he was walking, suddenly he felt the ground shaking terribly. He looked around with his paranoid eyes and saw an elephant walking right behind him. Quickly, the little ant covered himself with dirt, but one leg was unfortunately left out. A sparrow saw everything, so she flew down with the purpose of teasing the ant: 「Hey, chicken! Watch out your leg, it』s out!」 The ant felt embarrassed at first but then calmly responded: 「 Shi…I am going to trip that elephant.」
Right now, I』m standing on this glamorous stage. But everything here reminds me of is a not so fun memory. Around this time last year I was in Nanjing competing in another speech contest. That was the first time for me to be in such a large event. Of course the pressure I was under was immense too. After a sleepless and stressful night, I went onto that stage without the feeling in my legs. That speech turned out to be horrible. I don』t remember how I get down from there, but I do remember afterwards I just wanted to find a hole to hide in just like the ant in the story. Back at my school, it took a long time for me to recover. Thanks to all the help I got from my special friends. My confidence was restored. After rounds of giving speeches and answering tough questions, I am here today. From all that I』ve been through I』ve learned that a good future is based on a forgotten past, if I want my life to go on well I have to let go of my past failure. So today, with out fear, I am tripping my elephant again.
我又一次在絆大象
從前，一隻小螞蟻在路上走著，走著走著，忽然感覺到地在顫動，回頭一看是一隻大象正朝他走來。於是他很快用土蓋住身體，不幸一隻腳忘在了外面。一隻麻雀看到了一切，她飛下來想要取笑一下這只螞蟻，說：「咳，膽小鬼，小心你的腳，露出來了！」 螞蟻開始有些尷尬，但一會不緊不慢地告訴麻雀說：「小聲點，我要在絆那隻大象。」
今天，我站在這個講台上。但周圍的一切讓我想到的卻並不是一段有趣的回憶。大概是去年的這個時間，我在南京參加另一個全國英語演講比賽。那是我第一次參加大賽，當然壓力非常大。經過壓抑無眠的一整夜，我走上了演講台。那時我有史以來最差的一次演講。我不記得自己怎麼從講台上走下來的，只記得當時很想找一個地方躲進去再也不出來就想我故事中的螞蟻。回到學校，我花了好一段時間才恢復過來。幸好有朋友和老師的鼓勵，我又一次有了勇氣和信心。經過一輪又一輪的演講和回答問題，我今天站在了這里。讓也我領悟了一個道理：一個好的將來是建立在忘掉過去的基礎上的，直到真正忘記過去的失敗生活才會變的美好。今天，我沒有懼怕，又一次站到了大象的面前。
